The mill is situated on a dam that also protects the waterfowl sanctuary. The dam was in need of repair from over-topping due to storm surges and the natural cycles of the tides. We are nearing completion of a major project to restore the earthen dam, install a new roof on the mill building and repair structural damage caused by water and insects. This work was completed with the help of a matching grant from the Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation.

The next phase of the restoration project will include shoring up the bulkhead which protects the mill’s stone foundation. We are currently raising money to complete this important work to preserve the mill which is considered one of the best preserved eighteenth century tide mills in the United States.
